WRAP UP
The end is only a beginning…
At the beginning of this course, you picked up a brush, a pen, or a pair of scissors, and decided to look at the world a little differently. That decision matters more than you may realize. Matisse spent sixty years making that same decision every morning, and the work he left behind is proof of what sustained attention to color, shape, and joy can produce.
You have moved through the full arc of his practice: from the shock of Fauvism to the meditative quiet of a Nice interior, from figures to the surprising freedom of the cut-outs. Along the way, you have made things that did not exist before. That is not a small achievement.
What to take forward…
The techniques in this course, flat color, simplified line, pattern, cut form, decorative composition, are tools you now own. But the deeper inheritance from Matisse is harder to name and more valuable: the insistence that looking carefully is itself a creative act, that beauty is a serious ambition, and that starting over is not failure but a method.
Most of all, keep on creating! The course ends; the practice does not.
“Work cures everything.”
